The KUROTSUKI(黒月) is a study in contrasts—where field-ready toughness meets the quiet refinement of Japanese design. Applied Arabic numerals rise from the dial in crisp relief, their surfaces brushed to catch the light with subtle nuance. Beneath them lies a deep, glossy black lacquer dial, a finish that seems to draw in light and add an unexpected sense of depth.
The syringe-style hands, borrowed from military timepieces, are given a sculpted profile rather than the typical flat form, lending them both presence and elegance. Two distinct luminous compounds are used across the hour, minute, and minute track—one glowing blue, the other green—making the watch as legible in darkness as it is in daylight. The seconds hand carries perhaps the most poetic detail: its luminous tip recalls the sweeping roofline of Asakusa’s Kaminarimon gate, while the body extends in a rich burgundy tone echoing the temple’s iconic red pillars. Together, roof and pillar are distilled into a single gesture, a small tribute to the brand’s Tokyo origins.
The case, at 38mm in diameter and 9.5mm thick, is proportioned with the restraint of a classic dress watch, yet wears comfortably in almost any setting. A 46mm lug-to-lug span ensures an easy fit on the wrist, while 100 meters of water resistance makes it more than capable beyond the city streets. The finishing reveals another layer of thought: hairline brushing along the bezel top and case flanks, contrasted by mirror-polished surfaces on the bezel side and case front, giving the watch a depth that rewards closer inspection.
Even the buckle carries meaning. Its form draws directly from the Kaminarimon gate at Sensō-ji Temple, distilling architectural strength and traditional Japanese sensibility into a detail often overlooked. It’s a small but deliberate touch that completes the watch’s narrative.
Inside beats a Japanese automatic movement, sealed with 10 ATM of water resistance. From daily wear to outdoor excursions, the KUROTSUKI is a watch built to bridge cultures, contexts, and moments—rooted in Asakusa, yet made to travel anywhere.
