Description

The name YANE(屋根), meaning roof in Japanese, is derived from one of the most iconic elements of traditional Japanese architecture. Rooted in Asakusa, where KIWAME TOKYO was born, YANE draws its inspiration from the historic temple roofs that have defined the city's skyline for centuries. Rather than referencing a single architectural detail, YANE reinterprets the beauty of these roofs from multiple perspectives, bringing them together into a single watch design.

Viewed from the side, the gently sweeping profile of the case echoes the graceful silhouette of a temple roof as seen from the front. Looking down from above, the upper and lower lug sections feature a three-dimensional pattern inspired by the rhythmic rows of traditional Japanese roof tiles, creating rich shadows that shift beautifully with the light. At 12 o'clock, the signature index takes its form from the mune—the roof ridge that defines the highest point of a temple roof when viewed from the side—transforming one of Japanese architecture's most recognizable silhouettes into KIWAME TOKYO's own design signature.

Together, these elements express the same temple roof from three different viewpoints: its frontal silhouette through the case profile, its tiled surface through the upper and lower lug sections, and its ridge through the dial itself. Completing the design, even the portion of the caseback that subtly extends beyond the case features a pattern inspired by the taruki(exposed roof rafters) found beneath traditional temple eaves, reflecting our commitment to incorporating the architectural character of Asakusa into even the smallest details.

Rather than using traditional architecture as decoration, YANE reimagines it as the very foundation of the watch's design. The result is a timepiece that captures the architectural spirit of Asakusa from every angle, standing as one of the purest expressions of KIWAME TOKYO's philosophy.
